Everett's Best Swim Spots
Despite popular culture’s view of the PNW, it doesn’t rain here all day, everyday. In fact, summers here are quite nice. You’re not going to melt when you go outside, but it’s warm enough to make the first cannonball of the season pretty darn spectacular. Here’s a local’s guide to the best swimmin’ spots.
Howarth Park
Website
Dip into the Puget Sound from the comfortable sandy shores of Howarth Park. The beach offers views of downtown Everett, Mukilteo, Port Gardner, Whidbey Island, Possession Sound and Mount Baker. On July 4 people gather here to watch fireworks over the bay. The path to the waterfront leads beachgoers over railroad tracks. Clanking trains make for part of the charm at this favorite local destination.
Jetty Island
Website
This two-mile, man-made island is ideal in so many ways: the water is shallow and warm, the sand is soft, there are nature trails and a nice cooling breeze comes off the water. Parents love it for recreational purposes, as do kite boarders, windsurfers and kite-fliers. Jetty Island is open seasonally in the summer. Visitors must take their own boat (kayak, canoe, paddle board, etc.) to access the island.
Silver Lake
Website
This lake is perfect for lazy afternoon swimming: a broad sandy shore and a nice shallow wade out. The shore is shaded out for part of the day by tall trees, allowing for a nice chill-out on a scorching summer afternoon. The park also has a play area for kids and picnic tables. There are a few floating docks from which to view ducks and cannonball from.
